Rev. Dr. Hector A. Chiesa is a bishop ordained in the Iglesia de Dios (Church of God).
His career in the ministry is excellent and it blends very well with an important public position in the State of New York.
He received certificates and degrees from the Hispanic Bible Institute of the “Assembly of God.” He holds several college degrees, Bachelor in Theology and Christian Education, Bachelor in Arts, Master in Arts and Master in Professional Studies. He also is a PhD and has received an honorary Doctor in Divinity and Humanity degree.
Dr. Chiesa started his career in the ministry in 1969 when he founded the Christian Church Hispano-Americana in Brooklyn, New York where he was a Pastor for over a decade.
At the same time, he was one of the founders and president of the “Cruzada Juvenil La Pesca Milagrosa,” an organization that preaches on the streets so it can reach drug addicts and alcoholics.
Then, when he moved to the Albany area, he founded the English language, Jerusalem Church of the Asembly of God Council located in Granville, New York, and in Vermont. He was the church´s Associate Pastor.
He has also been a Catholic priest in Central and South America and in the Vatican. Later, when already a minister in the Church of God, in the Hispanic Northeastern Territory, he worked in the following positions since 1978: Member and Secretary to the Territorial Executive Committee; member of the Board of Education for the Ministry; member of the Evangelizing and Domestic Mission Board; Supervisor of the Northern New York District; pastor of the Newburgh, NY church; pastor of the Soundview Church in the Bronx, NY; member of the Youth and Christian Education Board; representative of Misiones Mundiales and coordinator of the Program of Studies for the Ministry.
At the present time, he represents the Chaplain Commission at the national level as Board member; is member of the Northeastern Regional Executive Council; supervisor of the District of Manhattan; professor of the Seminario Bíblico Pentecostal of Puerto Rico. He is also the host of the radio show called “La Voz que Clama en el Desierto”, at Radio Vision Cristiana.
Currently, he is the Head Pastor of the Church of God on Third Avenue in the Latin neighborhood of New York City where God has richly blessed his ministry for several years.
STATE GOVERNMENT / SOCIAL AND PROFESSIONAL WORK
He started his career in New York´s Correctional Services Department, Ministry and Family Services Division, in 1974. He has occupied important positions such as Chaplain of the Area´s Community, Administrator and Head Chaplain in the Central Office as well as in prisons and medium and maximum security complexes.
Until 2010, he was Coordinator of Ministry Programs and Administrator of the State Correctional Office, Ministry and Family Services Division, where he supervised chaplains of all denominations and all family programs. It should be mentioned that Dr. Chiesa is the first Hispanic in history who occupied that position.He was named to that post by the Honorable Governor of the State and the Commission of Correctional Services of the State of New York. He was also a member of the Chaplain Certifying Commission in the State of New York for ten years as well as member and secretary of the Association of the Chaplain Commission of the Church Councils in the State of New York. Presently he is Head of Chaplains of the Fraternal Order of Police and International Officers of the State of New York, Lodge #920.
Dr. Chiesa finished his medical and pastoral studies at the Lutheran Hospital Medical Center and was vice-president of the Health and Mental Problems Council of Brookdale Hospital and Medical Center, both located in Brooklyn, New York.
Dr. Chiesa was founder and president of the Sullivan County Hispanic Association. He was named by the Government of Sullivan County as member of a Legislative Ethics Commission. He was member of the Board of Directors of Community Action Commission to Help Sullivan County and member of the Board of Directors of The Sullivan County Day-Care Centers.
When he returned to the City, he became a member of the Organización de Ministros Hispanos de New York” where he served as Counselor and in Public Relations. Then he was elected as President of the Board of Directors of the Christian Community Benevolence Association in South Bronx. He was elected vice-president and, later, chairperson of the Parada Asociación Niño Cristiano Evangélico in New York.
At this time, he is member and counselor of numerous professional organizations such as the New York Corrections and Youth Services Association; the American Correctional Association of Protestant Chaplains, New York Evangelical Seminary, Nyack College Manhattan Center, the Board of the New York City Commission on Human Rights Prison Project and New York City Police Department as Police Clergy Liaison.
He is also the President of the Board of Directors of the Evangelical School of New York, Divinity School. He was named to the Community Board #12 by the Bronx County President.
He has traveled in over 45 countries and 5 continents as missioner, evangelist, speaker and bible teacher as well as archeology and history student and specialist in chaplain and criminal justice matters.
January 2014, He was re-elected for a second term President of the Board of Directors of Radio Vision Cristiana International in which Reawakening Wellness Center is heard every Wednesday night across the world. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the International Immigrants Foundation and its representative to the United Nations.
Presently, Dr. Chiesa is the regional representative to the Confraternidad de Líderes Conciliares (CONLICO) after being nominated by the Northeastern United States Administrative Bishop of the Church of God (Iglesia de Dios).
At the current time he is Chairman of the Foot Clinic of New York, part of the New York College of Podiatric Medicine.
Dr. Chiesa is well respected by the whole Ministry and leaders, the Church, and the community in the City; not only as a civic and religious leader but also because of his love and delivery service to the people he serves with dedication, passion and integrity. He has received acknowledgements, proclamations, certificates and citations from public officials, such as Council Presidents, Governor, Mayors, Legislators and Municipal Council leaders and other religious and secular institutions.
Dr. Chiesa is the International President in New York of the Evangelical National University of the Dominican Republic.
